Welcome to BESOA

Based in Gainesville, Florida, BESOA provides trained, qualified volleyball and fastpitch softball officials to schools serving several counties in north central Florida. All of our officials are independent contractors sanctioned by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
BESOA provides opportunities for its members to affiliate with and officiate for other city, national, and collegiate officials' organizations.
BESOA is always looking for officials – new and experienced. We also participate in the FHSAA's Student Officials' Program, a mentoring program for high school students aged 16 and up who are interested in officiating high school sports. Contact us to join or to schedule officials.

Error in 2012 NFHS softball rules book :

Error in 2012 NFHS softball rules book

Please be advised that there is an error in the 2012 NFHS softball rules book, on page 68, 8-6-16c – delete the 10th word, “intentionally,” from the first sentence. This rules book will be sent to all FHSAA member schools in early January.

Notification of this error will be posted on www.nfhs.org and the NFHS Softball Central Hub hosted by ArbiterSports. Notification is also included in the 2012 softball rules changes power point.

Officials Softball Online Exams

Exams can be accessed directly through the officials FHSAA registration account at https://officials.fhsaa.org/ . If you registered for the wrong exam, NO PROBLEM! You can change your test option by clicking on the “Add/Remove Sports” option and then on the edit button once logged in. The edit button looks like a pencil.

Your 2011-12 Softball exam schedule is as follows:

  • Online open book exam: 1/27-2/01
  • Online closed book exam: 2/09-2/20
  • Online makeup exam (CLOSED BOOK ONLY): 2/24-2/29
 
Officials Softball Online Rules Video Presentation Dates :

Officials Softball Online Rules Video Presentation Dates

The 2011-12 online rules video presentations will be available for the following sports during the following dates:

  • Softball: 1/30-2/11

To view the online rules video presentation, you must log into the FHSAA officials program located on the web at https://officials.fhsaa.org.

Once logged in, you will see a link next to the appropriate sport to watch the video. You may also click on the [Rules Presentation] link on the left to navigate to the presentations.

These presentations are mandatory, and must be viewed by all officials.

The rules videos will run for approximately 30-40 minutes. After the video is complete you must click on a timer button within 10 seconds. After the timer is clicked, you will be presented with a 5 question quiz. Once you correctly answer 4 out of 5 of the questions correctly, you will receive credit for watching the video as long as it is within the established deadline. You may take this video as many times as you need to pass.
